Description

Mr. Craig Mullins inspired me to start speed painting...so here's my first attempt. It took approx. 1 hour in Photoshop :)
I'd recommend to artists amoung you who are normally pristine and enveloped in detail to do the same kind of thing. It's great practice for loosening you up...separates the boys from the men........I feel about 4 years old at the moment ;) It's not as easy as you might think. Be strict with yourself :) I also limited myself to just a plain round brush also... :)

Please leave lots of feedback :) Thank u

Damn nice speedy. I love doing speedpaints. I think that has been what has helped me progress the most. I have only been drawing/painting for 10 months now and I wouldnt be at the level I am without doing these speedpaints. They make you think quickly and make touch decisions fast. Keeps your head out of the details and more onto the BIG picture.

Nice job! +7

Well done. I assume you used a graphics tablet? I like the lights and darks of the buildings. I know exactly what is happening. Did you use a photo for referance?

I am one of those usually enveloped in detail and I always admire people who can do a loose painting and leave it there. This is an example of when that really works. Great reflection. Good shadow and light color. Wish I was there.

Craig Mullins is a alien from mars.
Anyway, nice job. Well done.

For a speedpaint this is fantastic. This is something I would actually like to see worked up into a finished painting. Don't need to get carried away with the detail because I like the loose effect.

Nice job.

I love speedpainting, and looking at other people's speedpaintings! I think you got the saturation and contrast just right, which are the hardest part to get right in a quick study in my opinion.
Very nice.

I disagree with everyone - I don't like the "looseness" in some areas. It may be too loose for certain aspects. I'm referring, specifically, to the sky and the seond-to-leftmost building and boat. The water looks perfect though, and I do enjoy this style for a piece involving water reflections. Very good job overall :)

Combining different types of brushes helps. Even if it's just the size of the brush. There's no need to go into great detail, but in certain areas the strokes are a bit blunt. Greg Mullins usually 'speedpaints' at a very high resolution which gives him the luxury of resizing his works turning his rough strokes into nice detail.

I know what you mean...I was deliberately trying to restrict mysel, but point well taken :)

Very nice speedy! Almost like a photo, when you look at it from greater distance. Wonderful color selection.

P.S.: I guess I found a photo of this place (from slightly different angle, but very similar). See it here: http://www.rayjeanne.com/Images/Bicycling/Italy2001/Venice-canal.JPG
